This male fertility screening is meant to complement the care of your fertility clinic, not to replace it. It can take part of the partner workup off your hands in advance.

What is tested?
This panel measures thirteen biomarkers across two groups:
- Infectious-disease screening: HIV 1/2, hepatitis B (HBsAg and core antibody), hepatitis C, syphilis and Chlamydia IgG.
- Reproductive hormones: FSH, LH, total testosterone, free testosterone, estradiol (E2), prolactin and SHBG. You can read more about testosterone on the page about total testosterone.
A semen analysis is also part of the male workup, but it is a laboratory analysis of a semen sample rather than a blood test. You arrange it directly through your fertility clinic; it is not part of this panel.
What can this test tell you?
The infectious-disease screening shows whether there are indications of a number of infections that clinics often check before treatment. The hormone values can give context about your reproductive hormones, for example alongside the outcome of a semen analysis.
The results are data points, not a diagnosis. The fertility clinic or your doctor can best interpret them within your treatment plan.
How is the sample collected?
Blood is drawn once at a certified sample point, with 700+ locations across the Netherlands. After ordering, you choose a location and plan your visit yourself.
This is blood testing without a GP: no referral is needed and fasting is usually not required. The draw takes only a few minutes.
When is this test useful?
This male fertility screening can be useful when the two of you are entering an IVF or ICSI journey and you want to arrange the partner screening in advance. It can also help if you want to record a baseline of your reproductive hormones.

What do the results mean?
Each marker appears with its measured value and a reference range. The infectious-disease screening usually gives a reactive or non-reactive result; the hormones give a number with a corresponding range.
What a result means for your situation depends on the whole picture. The clinic decides which results it accepts and may repeat or add tests.
Preparation
For this panel you usually do not need to fast. Because testosterone is generally highest in the morning, a morning draw is often preferred for the hormone values.
If you use medication or supplements that can affect your hormones, ask your doctor whether that could influence your result. For the semen analysis, your clinic provides separate instructions.
What happens after the results?
